 President's Message

Thanks to Gavin and those who stepped up in my absence this week.  Geoff Thompson has provided some commentary on John Spiller’s presentation.

This coming Tuesday 9th April will be our first meeting at our new location:

Howick Club
107 Botany Road
Howick

Most of you will be familiar with the club, we have had many special occasions there over the years.

Because of other ongoing bookings at Howick Club we have had to change our meetings to 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month hence meeting next Tuesday.
Please enter by the main entrance and go to our meeting room located at the end of the corridor on the right in front of the buffet service area.
You will need to sign in so we have a record of attendance when you arrive at our room. If you are not a Howick Club member you will have to complete a visitors pass.
Meals
When you sign in you will confirm your meal choice which will be invoice via your account as normal. The club will pay for the evenings meals in the same way we have in the past.
Drinks
If you are not a member of the Howick Club you will not be served a drink without your visitor pass. Pay for your drinks at the bar.

Our Program
9th    April – Speaker night            Dave Cox will tell us what he has been doing for the last few years. And possibly another member.
27th April – Club Business              Bailey Ryan and her experience on Spirit of Adventure. Time to update the club on what is happening and involve members where required.

14th May – Speaker night              PDG Jenny Herring will be our speaker. Our focus is bringing potential new members. You will hear more about what is expected.
28th May – Club Business

There may be a few teething issues as we adjust to our new venue. Please do what you can to assist. I have already spoken to a couple of potential members and they are very positive about our move.

Who was it that said “Change is good. You go first!”

Speaker John Spiller

We had John Spiller speaking to us about his very interesting tramp in Cornwall.

It started in Padstow which is in the north and traversed along the coastline to the most westerly area and took them a fair distance along the southern coast as well. The tramp was just over 150kms long!  Quite a feat of endurance with many blisters to show for the effort.

Cornwall has many things of interest such as beautiful scenery, wonderful quaint harbours and villages, smuggling hide outs, great pubs, rocky and sandy beaches and superb surfing.

Cornwall is a special place for me personally as I have relatives living there and my 2 brothers and Mum and Dad spent many summer holidays there. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the UK
