 President's Message

Greetings to you all.
Well wasn’t it nice to be back at Rotary proper and what a great meeting, 33 people of which 27 were members, 28 if we include our new member Anne and congratulations and a huge welcome to her..

And what about our speaker for the night our very own Grace Cussell (I call her our very own because she just seems a part of our club).

She is doing so much, with so much energy and doing such good both in our communities and in the army reserves (hopefully soon to be called Marm)., I am sure that she would be welcomed back to speak again or just to visit us at any time.

And what an entertaining show from our (scary) Sergeant Madeleine (Lash) East. With having so many fines that she has saved up during our lockdowns she surely has built up the clubs coffers.

Well done to our caterers for giving us a very nice meal and at such short notice to.

So this was my last full meeting as your President and what an enjoyable way to end my year. I have really enjoyed being your President albeit for a shorter term due to Covid-19 and I will elaborate more on this at our next meeting. Looking forward to seeing you all at Changeover so be good and keep safe.

Food Parcel Project Update
Members and families of the Rotary Club have picked up the Challenge of supporting the Food Parcel Project with personal donations of over $2000. The club issued the Challenge to its members and families to add to the support it was providing to local Food Parcel providers through an initial $5000 from the clubs Community Trust and $5000 from the Thomas Brydon Trust. The Community Trust will match the personal donations with a dollar for dollar top up (with a limit of $200 per person). There is still time for more members to participate as the club will close the matching grant Challenge next week.

 Guest Speaker Grace Cussell

Our speaker this week was Grace Cussell. Most members will know Grace who has been associated with Howick Rotary for a number of years firstly as an exchange student and then as one of our sponsored candidates on RYLA. We are all following Grace’s progress as she is developing into an outstanding leader with the help of our club. We look forward to her “annual" updates.

 Changeover 23rd June

Venue Howick Bowling Club

The Social Committee is pleased to be involved in organising another important event for our club. Changeover occurs once per year in June and is the occasion when the current President Mike Abercrombie hands over the chain of office to the incoming President Gavin Green. The club also uses this occasion to make changes to the Board of Directors
A wonderful fun filled evening is guaranteed. A superb meal is planned with excellent musical entertainment.

Invitations have been sent out to all club members and partners, honorary members and partners and a long list of special guests. We are pleased to advise that the response so far has been very encouraging, and it looks as if we will have in excess of 50 people attending.

If you have received an invitation and have not replied, please do so as soon as possible-a momentous and enjoyable evening is assured

Kind Regards
Geoff Thompson

Mangemangeroa Reserves Tree Planting June 2020
June is the month to help celebrate 20 years of planting native trees in the Mangemangeroa Valley  Reserves.

There are two dates when you can help plant some of 6000 eco-sourced native trees, grown from seeds collected in the valley.

The popular community planting mornings are:

Saturday 13 June organised by Sth Auckland Forest & Bird with Friends of Mangemangeroa (FOM). Or
Saturday 27 June by local Rotary clubs with FOM.
