Another busy week as your president. On Friday night together with 16 club members and friends I enjoyed the first night of “Bohemian Rhapsody” a fundraiser for our polio campaign. There was a big turnout from our neighbouring clubs and everyone was buzzing after being taken back to the days of Queen and their amazing performances.
On Monday night I was invited to represent you all at the Howick College Senior Honours Awards. This year through the work of Rob Mouncey and his committee our relationship with the college has been reinforced and is an important part of our community support. The evening itself was an outstanding demonstration of achievement in music and the arts, academic achievement, sporting success and community involvement. It was a celebration of excellence and a great credit to the staff and students led by Iva Ropati himself an ex member of our club.
On Tuesday I presented a cheque to Jenny Naley of the sowers Trust on behalf of us all to support their work in the Howick Ward. The following is an excerpt from their website
www.sowers.co.nz
“We provide prevention and early to mid intervention programmes for young people. This includes youth development programmes and mentoring and support for the whole family.
Outcomes from some of our programmes include young people that have a greater sense of belonging, feel safe, have developed resiliency and are making positive choices.”
This coming Friday I will be at the presentation of the charter to our district’s newest club Auckland Airport. Their president Guy Slocum is an interesting character. Included in his CV is time as an RAF fighter pilot. He has agreed to be our speaker at a future club night.
At our next meeting Ian fox is leading us in an exercise “Mapping out our future.” Give it some thought and be prepared to make a positive contribution.
My thought for the week “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow”
