It was very small group of us gathered at the Howick Club last night for our meeting. We have several members travelling, others unwell. However it did not detract from a very pleasant evening where our own Arnie duToit provided us with an insight into Arnie the person and his job .
We were delighted that Arnie’s dad, Arnold was able to join us. A Rotarian himself in South Africa I am sure he provides much support to his son Arnie.
Arnie is from South Africa and he still has a large extended family over there, but Arnie’s family, Mum and Dad plus his brother and sister -in-law are well settled here in New Zealand.
Arnie joined Rotary because through his work he understands that many in our community are vulnerable and as a group that works for and in the community, Rotary is a good fit for his beliefs and values.
Arnie is a qualified mental health nurse who works as a private independent contractor who is focused on providing support and medical nursing care to people who have a range of mental health issues. As part of his role, he is at times required to work with Police and other agencies in times of disaster or death.
He firmly believes in the need for professional development for his own learning and the ensure he is up to date with the ever changing face of best practice.
Arnie is also the Marketing Manager for Mutual Financial Support Services which is a family business which is part of SHARE, a NZ based network of financial advisers with a common brand, systems and processes. Through this network the company is able to understand the needs and goals of individuals and businesses and tailor a solution best suited to their needs.
Clearly Arnie is very busy fulfilling his various roles and managing a job that is both physically and emotionally draining, but it is a very interesting life and I am sure most rewarding
In her vote of thanks, Glenice noted that Arnie is one of those “who really care”.
Again Steve stepped into the role of Sergeant extremely well and had a few tales to tell about members driving habits, like driving out the wrong exit , forgetting keys resulting in clambering through windows or intruding on friends mornings !! All in good fun !
SPECIAL NOTICE
Coast Guard has again this year invited us to a BBQ. Unfortunately, it is on a non-club night 21st March, and numbers are limited to members only, not partners because of limited space. Weather and conditions permitting a ride on the boat should be available. The FWR committee have been invited as has the Board. Any member wishing to join Coast Guard on 21st March at 7pm please let me know asap so I can let CG know numbers.
I am heading off to Queenstown for a long weekend and am hoping for a fine weekend and no weather events !!
Kia tupato, kia noho haumaru. Take care, stay safe.
