By all accounts our last meeting was a very different kind of meeting but, as it turned out ,a most enjoyable one with Sergeant Bill managing quick time changes with enormous skill !!
We began the evening with members holding a Club Assembly while partners had a social hour at the bar. The sole purpose of the Club Assembly was to provide the opportunity for members to vote on the Regionalisation Pilot Proposal to allow the President to vote on members behalf. PDG Craig Horrocks provided an overview for us around the rationale for the proposal and some of the possible benefits. He noted this is a Pilot and to date all clubs have voted in favour of the proposal. There was the opportunity for members to ask questions before the motion was put “That members of the Rotary Club of Howick give the President the right to vote in favour of the regionalisation proposal on our behalf” The motion was carried by majority.
After the vote partners joined members and our evening continued to celebrate our 61st Birthday.
It was nice to have letters of recognition for length of service from RI presented on this special evening to Rob Mouncey, Geoff Thompson, Fred Holland, Alan Peterson, Garry Donoghue, Bill Charkow, John Richardson, Barry Nicholls, David Fels, Ian Fox, Gavin Green and Jim Duckworth who also received the real globe!!
I had the honour of cutting the birthday cake with Jim Duckworth who baked our cake, and I have on very good authority he also ensured the appropriate doses of cognac were added at regular intervals. The cake as always was absolutely delicious. Thank you, Jim.
The Social Committee did a great job of giving the room an air of festivity and the spot prizes were certainly a bright spot and bit of fun. Thanks to Pat and her team.
John Savory and I have conferred on the programme going forward. The next meeting 27th September will be a partners invited Quiz Night, this replaces the club assembly, and the meeting after that ,11th October we will have Professor Paul Moon from AUT talking to us about how nostalgia affects our perception of history. It sounds like an interesting presentation so partners and guests are invited especially potential new members.
Kia Tupato, Kia noho haumaru. Take care, stay safe
