 President's Message

Madeleine East

What a positive and fun evening our last meeting was.

It was great to see several partners there along with Steve and Liz Dymond visiting our club as guests of Ian Fox.

It was an extremely pleasant duty for me to induct our newest member, Arnold Du Toit. Arnold’s grandfather was a Rotarian in South Africa and that has inspired Arnie to become a Rotarian. He was introduced to the club by Glenice Yeoman, and Ian Fox as a past Assistant Governor, welcomed him on behalf of Rotary International. I know we are all looking forward to Arnie joining us as a club and participating in our various projects and social events.

As part of the 1-minute speaker slot we were reminded by Geoff and Glenice that Bookarama is fast approaching and we need all the help we can get. There are so many jobs that need doing, both large and small so please everyone get behind the committee and make this a real bumper Bookarama!

As a change to the programme our Quiz Master extraordinaire John Savory devised a somewhat different kind of quiz where the quizzers got to set their own questions, with each table charged to set 3 questions (with answers) therefore providing a very interesting, if eclectic, mix of questions for us to answer. It was a fun night and everyone joined into the spirit of it all and were rewarded with a chocolate bar at the end.

Acting Sergeant Steve Lines did very well extracting fines for a range of reasons from new cars to winning raffles, he did his best not to miss anyone out all in very fine humour.

The speaker at our next meeting is Paul Moon who I am sure will be very interesting. Partners are of course very welcome.

Kia Tupato, kia noho haumaru. Take care stay safe

New Member - Quiz Night

President Madeleine East welcoming new member Arnie du Toit to the Club.

Another relaxing evening at Howick Rotary after busy days sorting books ready for our huge Bookarama. It will be massive this time with two year's stock ready to go. We welcomed our newest member to the Club before participating in a very challenging quiz evening. Lots of laughs and a few cheeky answer challenges. If you would like to join with us to have some fun while also helping our community just send a message or give us a call and we will get back to answer any questions you may have.

 Bookarama Update

The Books keep rolling in!

Headquarters for Sorting and Dropping Off has now moved to the basement of the RSA.

The Big Move to Somerville Intermediate is set for Wednesday 5th October. A number of members have volunteered and are on the Roster but anyone with free time throughout Wednesday from 9:00am to 8:00pm would be welcomed with open arms.

Signs and Posters promoting the sale are throughout the community, adverts and articles are in H&P Times, East FM will be promoting the event including an interview with Geoff. ZB Community Radio and the Breeze have been notified (however they do not provide feed back confirming they have promoted it so if anyone hears anything let the Committee know please).

The clock is now ticking down for our largest and most important fundraising project so if you have free time get involved!

All Saints Christmas Lunch Box Appeal

I have been contacted by All Saints to let us know that they are planning on donating 250 Christmas Lunch boxes this year. As you may know each lunch box has fare for 4 people.

They have invited us to nominate families that we know that are in need. Our allocation is 12 boxes out of the total.

Please inform me if you know of any deserving families in the area that would be worthy recipients of one of the lunch boxes.

Put a note in your diaries for packing day on the 22nd December.

Regards
Carole Ansley
