Changeover night is confirmed for 3rd July at Howick Bowling Club. Please put it in your diary.
Our guest speakers last Tuesday at Rotary were Michael Rowse and Tony King from East FM which you probably knew as Howick Radio. It is a merger of Howick and Botany Radio so the new name reflects their broadcast area. We all had an opportunity to have a look over their mobile broadcast operation in a converted caravan. During their presentation they told us about finding a location for their aerial, the higher the better for greater coverage.
Eventually Crawford Medical Centre provided space in their roof. Their fixed broadcast location is in a shared space with Howick Village Association that they described as "a cupboard." With a team of dedicated volunteers they do a great job for the Howick area. On behalf of the club I was pleased to be able to present them with a cheque for $3,000 to help with funding their operations. Rotary is acknowledged with the Rotary emblem on their mobile base.
Last Sunday around 40 families and friends had a very enjoyable "Family Picnic" with the alpacas at the home of Bruce and Lynda Matthews near Pukekohe. We really had a lot of fun including events such as throwing the gumboot, sack races and egg and spoon race. I was pleased that the Sergeant fined President Elect Dave Wylie for his performance in the egg and spoon race. Despite a surprising turn of speed holding the egg is not "Fair to all concerned!" A great venue, lots of fun and fellowship shared by all who made the trip. A big thank you to our hosts.
This coming Tuesday I will be in Fiji for the district conference so club night is going to be organised by John Savory and run by the one and only Colin Monk at our usual venue. The event at Remuera Golf Club on the same night has been cancelled.
To those of you who are unwell and especially those in hospital we are thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery. And to those lucky folk on holiday enjoy yourselves and stay safe.
My thought for the day
"Between 1800 and 1900 AD men invented almost every modern ball sport as a substitute for hunting so for modern man sport has become a substitute for hunting."
Enjoy your Easter and I will see you at wine tasting at Howick Club on 10th April.
