From President Elect – Malcolm Pascoe
As you all know President Madeleine has been unwell and therefore I am filling in for her this evening.Bill Charkow read a message from Madeleine. Our very Best Health Wishes go out to her.
“Madeleine stated that her condition had been brought on by stress and now needs to relax and rest.
Due to the cancellation of our previous dinner meeting, our meeting last night was a busy one.
We had the pleasure of the company of DG Allan Smith and his wife Sue. Also welcomed was ADG David Bradshaw.
Dave Wylie introduced James Monk, the RYLA candidate to the club. James was accompanied by his father Blair Monk. It will be of no surprise to learn that James is the grandson of Colin and Meryl Monk. We wish James all the very best for his involvement during the RYLA week.
Ian Fox introduced Mathew Cook as a new member to our Club. Many of you will know Mathew from his membership in previous years. Everyone spoke highly of Mathew, and I, as well as the Club welcomed him back. DG Allan Smith welcomed Mathew on behalf of Rotary International.
Our next privilege was for Colin Monk to present Howick Coastguard with a cheque for $!0,000.00. This was a result of a very successful Howick Rotary Fun Run/Walk. Jenny Rowsell, President and Chris Paul accepted the cheque on behalf of Howick Coastguard. In presenting the cheque Colin mentioned the great association that there was between the two clubs and that with the $10000 it brings the total assistance the club has provided to in excess of $60000 over the years from the first donation of $637.
Jenny Rowsell thanked the Club on behalf of Coastguard and also told us that this money would go toward to a new computer system to assist them with their training.
The District Governor Allan Smith addressed the Club. Allan spoke comprehensively of his career and the success of his and his wife Sue ‘business. Allan spoke of his visiting all the 9920 Pacifica District Clubs which had not been visited during the Covid months. He has a vision that Clubs should be collaborating with other each other for assistance with their projects.
His wife, Sue, also spoke of her career and as the spouse of a District Governor has the opportunity to choose a project. Sue chose Romac. www.romas.org.nz
This charity, Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children is a very worthy one and Sue mentioned she had witnessed many successful outcomes.
Members and guests all enjoyed the evening’s events.
Again, we send kind wishes to Madeleine for a full recovery and look forward to seeing her back with us.
Our next meeting is set down for 13th June. This is a Club Assembly meeting.
Kind wishes
Be well and stay safe.
Malcolm J Pascoe
President Elect.
