What a great night in Rotary!
An interesting and entertaining speaker in Laurence Kubiak whose wife also joined us for dinner, 4 guests/potential new members, announcements and thanks for the many projects the club recently was involved in and has underway and lots of mirth and merriment on the night ably guided through by Sergeant Ian.
Laurence Kubiak Chief Executive of the NZIER gave an oversight of the New Zealand economy in a post Covid era. Economics is not normally a subject that holds one’s attention that easily however Laurie, as he likes to be known, made his presentation very informative and entertaining with some personal stories that brought the subject to life. Laurie, wife Jennifer and family live in Mellon’s Bay so that added another nice local touch to the evening.
Our guests/possible new members were Glenice Yeoman who is on her way to membership volunteering her help with projects already, Penny Li who is a former Rotaractor and RYLArian and who made initial contact through the web site, Sukhy Bassan who made contact with the club Secretary Garry and Tony Francis who is known to Mike Abercrombie and is a Rotarian from Darwin who would like to transfer to our club.
Malcolm Pascoe delivered thank you messages from John Osborne and Colin Monk for the Fun Walk & Run (see later in Keyway) and launched the Blanket Appeal project handing out promotional leaflets for distribution in the community (see later in Keyway). In Colin's message he estimated that the club would be able to make a similar grant to Coastguard that we made last year ($6000).
Geoff Thompson thanked everybody that helped with the Brit and Euro car show which after a dismal weather start in the very early part of the day turned into a lovely day and another huge success. He also reminded us that the work for Bookarama is getting underway.
RYLA candidates are now being sought for this year’s seminar in July. Dave Wylie is the club contact for this project.
With all the announcements and thanks for completed projects in addition to upcoming projects we should all feel very proud of the amazing contribution the club makes to our local community and with all the membership interest perhaps the word is finally getting out!
