 President's Message

Madeleine East

And I thought I wouldn’t be doing this anymore!!

Just a very quick note to extend again my thanks to Pat Abercrombie and her team of helpers for another really enjoyable night.

It was lovely to have three of our honorary members there Sue North, Bruce Burton and Bob Jollands, who also won a spot prize, and Govind Pani President of the Pakuranga Rotary Club and his wife Sanhya. We always think NZ is a small place as so often we bump into people that know people we know, well last night proved this internationally as it transpired that Harjit and Govind had mutual connections in India and other parts of the world. Small world indeed.

As usual Jim Duckworth provided an excellent birthday cake and I had the honour of cutting our 62nd Birthday cake with him. Geoff Thompson is indeed a man of many talents and acted as the roving reporter photographer for the evening, and Sally and Glenice worked the technology with a little initial help from Gavin Green who was able to join us last night.

MC Steve Lines did a great job, immaculately dressed in a cream suit with built in ventilation, keeping things moving along with plenty of humour for good measure.

Steve and I were charged with judging the Best Dressed for the evening, a very difficult task but we went for sophisticated elegance and the winners were Fred and Celeste Holland. A very handsome couple.

Thank you everyone for joining in to the spirit of the evening and making our 62nd birthday another special event on our calendar.

Kia tupato, kia noho haumaru
Take care, stay safe.
Madeleine East IPP.

The club’s last dinner meeting was a birthday charter night celebrating 62 years. The event was attended by members and honorary members along with partners and guests Pakuranga Rotary President Govid Pani and his wife Sanhya.

There were raffles, spot prizes and lots of humour throughout the night. The challenge of best dressed birthday party outfits was won by Celeste and Fred Holland dressed in sartorial elegance.

Jim Duckworth gave the Allan Riley dedication speech for the seat installed at the trig station on the Mangemangeroa Reserve on a lovely spring morning on September 2 attended by Rotarians and Friends of Mangemangeroa. Jim started by thanking everybody for coming and said “we are here to dedicate this seat to the memory of Allan Riley, a tireless and dedicated worker, who was a major force driving this project for 22 years.” Jim went on to provide the history of the reserve and the part that Allan played as Chairman of the Friends of Mangemangeroa. He concluded by saying “this is a place of beauty and a place of memories and contemplation. It is our humble honor to dedicate this seat to Allan Riley. Thank you.”

 Rotary Dine Out Spring Celebration

The happy group, shown here, had a very enjoyable evening on Sunday 3rd September at the Prospect of Howick Restaurant. The wearing of a Spring flower or two added to the occasion!

Request for Help from Ambrose Rose Villa

Good morning, I am a Dementia Therapist at the Dementia unit of Ambrose Rose Villa on Pakuranga Rd. Our lovely gentlemen, are slightly forgetful, at times may not be able to express themselves, but still willing to be involved in things that "men" do. I wonder if you have a group of men, who could help our men be men. A group who would like to occasionally join us here, perhaps in a monthly or bi-monthly morning tea and reminisce, chat to our men. Perhaps they have something interesting they can bring with them and showcase. A sport car, a vintage car, a model train, etc... perhaps play darts or other games with our men. I would appreciate if you could please put this out there in your club, that would be great.

Looking forward to your response,
Diana.
