In this Edition it is President Elect Malcolm Pascoe's Message.
It was my privilege to fill in for our lovely President Madeleine East at the last meeting.
The turnout of Rotary members was down again. Once again I think due to the winter weather and also some of you lucky enough to be on holiday enjoying sunshine.
The lack of numbers however was made up by visitors. There was a good turnout of member’s wives and also guests. Dave Wylie bought along prospective members Steve and Karen Naude.
Charles Miller from the Half Moon Bay Rotary club visited our Club for the evening and was a “one minute speaker” to inform us about the District Public Image Committee.
Mike Abercrombie aptly filled the shoes of our sergeant Bill Charkow for the night. He managed to fill the fines box and made a presentation on behalf of the Club to Ian Fox [two miniature bottles of fine whiskey!] on reaching a milestone Birthday.
Our guest speaker for the evening was poet Jan Beaumont.
Jan lives in Auckland and only started writing poetry at the beginning of Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020.
Jan has now written an excess of 300 poems and is renowned for her poem “Let’s all Drink to Lockdown”. Her poetry is light-hearted and she draws her inspirations from many walks of life.
Her work appears in numerous magazines, websites and newsletters worldwide and has been played on the BBC and several Australian and New Zealand radio stations.
Members enjoyed her presentation and her current publication was on sale. Google Jan Beaumont Poetry or go to her face book page for more information and her poetry.
Next meeting is set for 9th August. We will have the RYLA presenter’s and their parents along. Dave Wylie and Bill Charkow organizing.
Kind regards.
Take care and keep warm.
Malcolm J Pascoe.
President Elect.
