 President's Message

Gavin

Good Evening Members, Friends of Rotary, Past Members, Wives and Partners that read the Keyway.

Well, thank you Covid 19 for taking a meeting out off my Rotary year again earlier in the month.

But on the other hand we made up for it as members gathered on Tuesday to induct another new member.
It was an honour to be able to induct Bhupen Narsay into the Rotary Club of Howick particularly as Bhupen’s wife Anila was able to be present as well. A big welcome to you both.

It was also a pleasure to welcome guest Glenis Yeoman  who had come along to see what Rotary is all about with the thought of joining us as well. Our other guests on the night included Meryl Monk and Mike Williamson our speaker.

Mike gave us a very enlightening presentation on RYLA including how Covid may cause changes and how we may better promote the event. Thank you Mike for your speech.

Our own 1 minute speakers informed us as to what was coming up in the near future. This Sunday is the Howick Fun Run and Walk, Rotary Dine Out on Easter Sunday at the Stables in  Whitford at 6pm, the Brit and Euro Car Show on Sunday 11th April.

A group of Rotarians enjoyed the performance of Grease on Thursday night and it was personally nice for me to have Lynne, my Sister Carol from Timaru and my father-in-law all join us on the night.

Remember, many hands make light work and this Sunday 28th March we need all the help we can get.

Please all stay safe and well.

New Member Induction

Colin Monk introduced new member Bhupen Narsay to the club at our last dinner meeting with President Gavin Green completing the induction ceremony and past president Rob Mouncey welcoming Bhupen to the Rotary International organization.

Bhupen had been aware of Rotary, and its good work, for many years whilst living in Fiji. He is a trained and certified aircraft engineer, and has worked in Fiji, Canada, and latterly in NZ, in this role.

The arrival of COVID, and the problems in the airline industry, gave Bhupen the opportunity to take early retirement from Air New Zealand, and he is looking forward to giving something back to the community by joining Rotary.

Bhupen’s wife Anila joined him for his induction ceremony and they were given a warm welcome by all members, partners and friends in attendance.

Brit and Euro Car Show

Brit & Euro Car Show 11th April Lloyd Elsmore Park

This hugely successful event is about to be held once again in our area. The organizers have received massive interest from car clubs from all over NZ and expect in excess of 1250 cars will be displayed on the day. An event of this scale takes a huge amount of organizing and requires the help of as many volunteers as possible.

They expect a large turnout of visitors and the event presents itself as a golden opportunity for us as Rotarians to show the public that Rotary is a dynamic community supporting organization.

The Community committee is again setting up a BBQ and volunteers are needed to help with this between 9am and 4pm.We also need help with car parking 7.00am to 10.00am and 3.00pm to 4. 00pm.

This event is an incredible opportunity for members of our club to give up a little of their time and show the community that Rotary is a great organization.

Please give serious thought on how you can help on the day. We need 6-8 volunteers to help with the BBQ .6-8 with car parking and 6-8 with the gold coin collections and flyer distribution. A roster will be prepared so please let either Malcolm or Geoff know how you can help

Many thanks
Malcolm and Geoff
