Our Charter Night was celebrated in style, with the Theme “Putting on the Ritz”. It was a real treat to see everyone glammed up for the occasion. A huge thanks to the Social Committee team who pulled all this together. The room looked stunning with table settings reflecting the theme so well.
The evening began acknowledging the passing of John Sanders who passed away peacefully on Sunday night. John was a long serving and highly respected member of our club who held a number of roles within the club. He was Club President for the 1999/2000 Rotary year and for many years served as treasurer or assistant treasurer. John will be remembered for his kindness to others and his commitment to Rotary, a true gentleman in every sense of the world. He will be missed.
It was a pleasure to welcome so many members and partners to share the night with us along with special guests, DG Joyti Singh and her husband Sursen, Sandhya Govin President of Pakuranga Rotary Club and her husband and Rotary Community Leader Govin Pani.
We welcomed Judy Duckworth, Honorary Member and Ann Nicholls our newest Honorary Member.
Jeromy Thompson joined us, as did Arnie’s du Toit’s mother who in fact won the prize for knowledge of TV theme songs an amazing 18/20!
Along with Ann Nicholls becoming an honorary member I also welcomed Dave Moody as an Associate Member our second so far in this Rotary year.
DG Joyti gave a short address congratulating our club on the work we do and projects we support. She also touched on the current Regionalisation Pilot. We will learn more about that when Govind Pani is our speaker on 13th October.
The MC for the evening was Mike Abercrombie looking very dapper indeed in his tux! Thank you Mike for taking on this role and ensuring it was a night for us to enjoy.
Again, a huge thanks to the team who made it all happen, a lovely night all round.
My final plea, BOOKARAMA, the books are flowing in, last day for collection is Friday 25th but the hard work will continue and consistent help will be needed.
Kia Kaha, kia haumaru noho.
Stay strong, remain safe.
Madeleine East
President.
