Alasdair was very proud of his Scottish heritage. His father was a Gaelic speaker from the Isle of Skye and mother from the Scottish Lowlands. He took a keen interest in and was a member of the Clan Maclean for many years and is a Past President of Clan Maclean Association of NZ. The family often enjoyed clan gatherings at Waipu especially during the Highland Games tournaments on New Year’s Day.
