 President's Message

Happy 2019 to everyone. I hope you have enjoyed a break and are looking forward to what this year brings. I was sent this clip celebrating New Year and I think it is worth sharing.

A BEAUTIFUL RENDITION OF AULD LANG SYNE.

Unfortunately the year has not started well for the Petersons with Beverly’s recent passing. The funeral is at All Saints this coming Tuesday 22nd at 1pm. Thanks to those who turned up this week unfortunately a bit premature!

We had our traditional bowls night this week. Thanks to the organisers for a lot of fun. As someone remarked there were a lot of balls and quite a bit of bias. As far as I was concerned we were all winners on the night because my team came last…

Many of you will remember Madita Pleiss our outgoing exchange student for this year. She and a number of other exchange students set off on their 12 month adventure recently. See photos below.

We get down to our new meeting schedule starting on Tuesday 5th February. In principle our schedule will be 1st week of the month with focus on our speaker and will be our opportunity to bring friends and prospective members, the 3rd week of the month will be for club business and projects. The board is meeting next week and we will be discussing how to handle this trial through to the end of this Rotary year. There will be times when it is likely that we will meet outside of this schedule such as special occasions like visiting coastguard or vocational visits when we need to fit in with another party.

Membership is our focus. We need to increase our numbers and significantly reduce our average age. I was delighted to induct Sarah Bloxham into our club prior to Christmas and we have several other prospective members to be introduced over the next few weeks. Unfortunately however, David Percival has tendered his resignation from the club. He and Jane are moving to Waihi in a few weeks to be near to their family. We will miss them. On a positive note between them Sarah and David have helped to reduce our average age!!

Attendance at a Rotary International Convention is an inspiring and uplifting experience. A number of club members attended the convention in Salt Lake City and came back buzzing.

The dates are 1st – 5th June and the location is Hamburg, Germany.

If you are planning travel at that time this is a great option to include in your trip.
