 President's Message

Gavin

Good Evening Members, Friends of Rotary, Past Members, Wives and Partners that read the Keyway.
After 2 Zoom meetings and being back to Covid-19/1 we could meet again at the
Howick Club Inc.
We started with a Beer or a Wine with a bit off fellowship as some of us have only spoken to each other from afar.
Sergeant Ian opened the meeting, and then I asked Rob Mouncey and Ian Fox to inform us on the developments  in Clubrunner, Keyway and Facebook to name a few items, that could be used to bring club members closer by using the technology skills Rotary provides.
Garry Donoghue requested interested members to put up their hands up to replace sitting members of the Board such as Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant, and of course President. This would provide an opportunity to learn skills from the incumbent.
Mike Abercrombie, spoke on his job as the club Almoner, asking members to be more proactive in letting him or Pat know when members of the Rotary family are unwell.
In a round up of member news we learnt that Allen Peterson has had a bad fall some 2 weeks ago and will be in hospital for another 2 to 3 weeks, Dorothy Osborne has been having bad migraines, Harjet Singh and David Owen both had eye surgery. Jeannette Wylie has been having blood clot problems. Allen Riley has been unwell and Jim Duckworth who is now on dialysis support. As President I reinforced the message that the Rotary Club family is here to help where we can, so please keep us informed. Thank you Mike and Pat for your work.
I informed club members that it was with regret I accepted Harjit Singh’s resignation as President Elect for 2021 / 22. For personal health and family reasons Harjit has asked for leave but will retain membership of the club.
On a brighter note our belated Charter Night 2020 , is all “go” for the 27th October 2020. At the Howick Club Inc. I am looking forward to catching up with you all. It is going to be a great night. Organised by David Teape and his team we will be inducting new member Steve Lines into the club. We will also have our Birthday cake designed and made by the one and only Jim Duckworth and 14 members that have served The Rotary Club of Howick Inc. for 25 years plus will be recognized for their contribution. To help me on the night Madeleine East will be MC and I will be accompanied by Our District Governor Craig Horrocks and my wife Lynne.
I look forward to catching up again. It will be a night not to miss.
For those of you who are travelling, we wish you well, stay safe and enjoy your time away.
Your Presidents Pen

Normal Meetings Restart
President Gavin Green was pleased to lead the club’s first physical meeting at the Howick Club after weeks of lockdown 2.5. It was great for members to meet again and socialize over drinks and dinner. The occasion was used to update members on the developments of the Communications Group relating to the web site, Facebook and Keyway using a live demonstration through the Howick Club’s WIFI. The effectiveness of these media channels in keeping the public informed of the Bookarama project were clearly evident with 3000 followers on Facebook and 1000 active users on the web site over the last 30 days.
Committee Directors also updated the meeting on activities that had progressed under lockdown as well as outlining future work. Now we can really get going!
Bookarama Project Leader Geoff Thompson also took the opportunity to thank individuals and the club as a whole for a successful project and this was reinforced with a big “self-cheers” ordered by Sergeant Ian Fox.
