 President's Message

Well what can I say, I am so proud to be your President again for 2020/21 and hope everyone has an enjoyable year.

Can I take this time to thank a few people, firstly Past President Mike Abercrombie for standing up to the plate and running a good year, Well done. To Geoff Thompson and his committee for a great “Change Over Night”. It was run extremely well by our M.C. Madeleine East, the Venue, Music, Flowers, Food and the overall night great. Given the time frame to put everything together thanks to Covid-19. I thank the team, well done. Off course without you the Members, Friends and other guests the night would never be a success. Thank you all for turning out. See here for photos.

Those that have noticed our Rotary Wheels and Signs have been taken down from Stockade Hill and Stevenson Hill in Howick don’t be afraid. They have been taken away for refurbishing and should be back in place all going well in the next 2 weeks.

Our Club meetings well start back on the 14th July at the Howick Club Inc. 5.30pm for 6pm and we have a guest speaker. Guests are welcome.

Our first Board Meeting will be at Garry and Helen Donoghue’s  7th July 7pm, 91 John Gills Road, Cockle Bay.

 Paul Cressey

Paul Cressey, a former member of our Club, a founding member of Half Moon Bay Rotary and a President there, passed away in Auckland Hospital Wednesday morning following a fall, injuring his head, at Mudbrick on Waiheke Island on Tuesday

Paul will be sorely missed by those of us who worked closely with him over the years. He was an outstanding leader in Community affairs and has led many inspiring projects over a long period.

His devotion to service above self for the good of the Community is a marvellous example of a Rotarian leading by example and commitment. Over many years he has served often as Chairman, most notably Ronald Mcdonald House at Auckland Hospital, Life Education Trust, Counties Manukau DHB, to name a few.

In recent times his leadership has been outstanding in the development of the local Men’s Shed at The Howick Historical Village, which is due to be completed in the next couple of weeks after a long period of commitment.

He was a tireless worker for Rotary and our local and wider community.

We will miss Paul’s leadership

The details for Paul’s funeral are yet to be finalised but will probably be held at the Yacht Club next Tuesday.
