We had a very enjoyable meeting on 28th November. It was great to welcome all our Rotary members along to this dinner meeting. Clem DeSilva, our exchange student also attended along with his Host Mum Dalwyne.
Clem’s English has improved remarkably over the last few months.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Damian Light, Chair of the local Howick Board. Having been elected to the local Howick Board Botany Sub Division in October 2022, Damian is the youngest member of our local Board and comes with a professional background in Business Improvement and Management. He is also a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. Damian also has some political background having been a member of the United Future political Party which has now been deregistered.
Some facts about our Howick District which is made up of Howick, Pakuranga and Botany.
1. We are the fifth largest urban area in New Zealand.
2. We have a population of 150 thousand, bigger than Dunedin and Tauranga.
3. We are 10% of the Auckland population.
4. We have seven beach’s and sixty-three kilometres of coastline.
Damian’s presentation topic was “Turning Strategy into Action” and also “Who, What and How” of the Howick Local Board.
The presentation was well received with multiple questions from the floor.
Sarah Laing thanked Damian for his informative presentation and the club expressed their thanks in the normal manner.
Damian has also offered to come back late next year to update us with progress with turning “strategy into action”.
Rotary business then took place.
Sergeant Steve Lines once again kept us humoured with his fines.

PS. Post the dinner meeting I would like to share some sad news. Sally Fletcher's mother passed away unexpectedly last Wednesday. I know all our thoughts and prayers are with Sally and Family. The funeral service will be at the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club on Thursday 7th December at 12:00 noon.
