It was great to welcome Dave Cox back to Howick Rotary after an absence of a few years tripping back and forth across the Tasman. Now he is retired he has more time and I am delighted that some of it will be spent with us. If you don’t know Dave why not invite him for a coffee or something stronger and take the time to get to know him.
Our guest for the evening was DG Ingrid Waugh who provided us with an update on things Rotary and fielded some questions from the floor. You will find a copy of her presentation
here.
One of the slides shows a map of our district 9920 and shows how much travel is involved in such a diverse area. As well as sharing her thoughts Ingrid also invited interested Rotarians to join her at the international conference in Hamburg, Germany. It is a few years since a team went to Salt Lake city and had a great time. Her district conference is to be held in Napier next year. Jeannette and I have been fortunate to attend the last two conferences in Auckland and Fiji. We had a great time and would love to have you join us at this conference.
This coming Tuesday is an important annual event for our club. We are hosting the Brian Hanlon Speech Awards that will be contested by four impressive pupils from Howick College. Rob Mouncey and I attended the selection this week and can assure you that you wont be disappointed. They will be accompanied by parents and teachers so please make them welcome.
We also will be hosting Madita Pleas our international exchange student next year who is keen to get to know us before she leaves. In addition we have extended an invitation to a number of people who have expressed an interest in Howick Rotary. We will know the numbers attending on Sunday. It is going to be a very busy night. Please show hospitality to our guests, talk to them and sit with them during the evening.
Partners, friends, prospective members are all welcome.
It is not very often that we have an opportunity to celebrate the chartering of a new club. Airport Rotary will be presented with their charter on Friday 9th. I am going and it would be nice to have some members join me. Details below.
For all those Queen fans Friday 2nd November at the Monterey Theatre in Howick Bohemian Rhapsody will be showing as a fund raiser for Polio Plus. Should be a fun night. Details below.
