 President's Message

Madeleine East

I think we can agree that our first full meeting for the 2022 year was most enjoyable. It was good to see so many of you there and partners as always, very welcome.

Clearly the plan to have a Trivial Pursuit Night was the right option. A group of Rotarians throwing petanque boules from a Flying Fox just doesn’t bear thinking about!!

Thanks to John Savory, Mike Abercrombie and Bill Charkow for pulling it all together and ensuring the night went off without a hitch. Special thanks to John Savory our quiz master. He certainly tested our knowledge. To be fair some of the phobias we couldn’t pronounce let alone identify and it is very hard to answer questions that actually don’t have an answer !!!However at the end of the night we all had fun, lots of laughter and catching up with each other, a great way to start the year.

Our next full meeting on 25th January, will be a Club Assembly. It is my intention at this meeting to update all members on progress and future plans of committees, upcoming projects and outline the proposed programme through to June/July, along with any other important updates. I would love to see a FULL ATTENDANCE please!

It is indeed great to be back to some sort of normality, long may it last, but who knows.

Kia tupato, kia noho haumaru. Take care, stay safe

Welcome to 2022

The New Year for the Club commenced with a very enjoyable Social Evening back at the Howick Club. Under Orange Traffic Light conditions, we can once again enjoy dinner together in the very nice meeting room at the Howick Club. To add to the enjoyment and test our intellectual skills John Savory organized a Trivial Pursuits quiz some of the questions for which did not even have an answer! Challenging and enjoyed by all! A great way to start the year!

Interplast Update

Interplast is a wonderful health and training program and one most worthy of the support.

This year, Interplast has asked for our help to fund Plastic and Reconstructive surgeries for patients in Tonga. The goal is to raise $15,750 to fund 15 Plastic and Reconstructive surgeries for patients in Tonga, who otherwise would not be able to afford desperately needed surgical care.

During this program, 5 adults and 10 children will be able to access life-changing surgery. The treatment will take place at Vaiola Central Hospital, Nuku’alofa, Tonga. $1,050.00 will pay for the surgery and post-operative care for 1 patient.

The generous funding provided by our district will help the children living with cleft lips or palates not only suffer from disfigurement, but are also often malnourished, as they cannot eat or drink normally. Their speech is often difficult to understand, and they and their families also often endure stigma and bullying because of the child’s physical appearance.

I have attached “Donation appeal letter” that includes a story about a Tongan patient called Andrew, who has had previous Interplast surgery. Click the link to read the letter.
We thank you most sincerely and look forward to your favorable reply at your earliest convenience.
