Thank you to all those that attended the dinner meeting on the 25th July.
And thank you to Mike for being Sergeant for the night and Glenice, Pat and Carole for arranging the evening and especially the computer for the raffle etc.

We had some special quests and of course the first visit of our International exchange student Clem.
Clem was introduced to the Club by Matthew Cooke. Clem then introduced himself, however his limited English made this a short introduction. We look forward to his English improving as well as his involvement with the club.
Our other special quest was James Monk, our RYLA candidate. James spoke of his experiences during the RYLA challenges a month or so ago. They experienced a wide range of speakers who were all very motivational and leadership building. Also, how to recognize one another’s strengths and to use these to benefit the teams performance .
James team obviously mastered this skill as they won two of the team challenges. James spoke of the New Zealand Army experiences as very non forgiving. The army personnel were very vocal and the participants were all pushed to their very limit. Apart from this they formed great respect for the New Zealand Army personnel running this part of the programme.
James enjoyed the food and meeting many people, they even had one participant from Fiji having being sponsored by Fiji Rotary Club.
He has found he likes public speaking and has volunteered to be a guest speaker at the next year’s RYLA. He has also developed a good habit of waking early to start his days.
Rotary members commented that they could see an improvement in James’s address compared to his first address to our Club. James is a young man with a world of opportunities available for the taking.
The Club wishes him every success in his future and look forward to sharing these in the coming years.
Congratulations were expressed to Jim Duckworth for being awarded life membership of the The Friends of Mangemangroa. Jim was a founding member of the Society.
