Next weekend I will be attending SPPETS (South Pacific President Elects Training) and we have been asked to support this project.
For the upcoming SPPETS training for all President Elects, we have been asked to support a great project, one that will actually help our District, so no excuses for us not to support. DGE Ingrid is all behind this, & DG Malini will be our deliverer……
PDG Liz Courtney, our Public Image Co-ordinator is asking all club members to donate a pair of boys or girls knickers aged for 2-4 year olds to the Fiji Squatters Camp Pre School. Cost is very low, as approx. $5 to buy a pack of 5 from K-Mart or from the Warehouse.
The background of the project:
These children have come from outer Islands with their families to Suva to look for work and to give their children an opportunity for education. They arrived with nothing and there are 4 of these camps alone in Suva.
The Montesouri teachers in Suva are volunteering their time 3 days a week for a morning to teach these children through play and Rotary has donated mobile teaching kits and pays for the transportation to each site by taxi.
When PDG Liz asked what we could do for this group, the teachers said that they wanted underwear for the children. It is expensive to buy in Fiji and the families couldn't afford it. The teachers are wanting to encourage good sanitation and hygiene to the children.
So all PE"s have been asked to bring the underwear to SPPETS in March where DG Malini will take them all back to Fiji. If people wish to donate $ 5 instead of buying then please let them know that a box for this will be at SPPETS and all the money will go to buy the underwear in Auckland before going to Fiji.
So I could ask that you please talk to your club & its members & see what we can do as a District, especially when this will benefit so many & in D9920.
I ask you to support this district project with a donation of $5 per club member and I will deliver it on your behalf next weekend.
