 President's Message

Greetings to everyone on another beautiful sunny day and after another enjoyable meeting.

It was great to hear from our two students from Howick College on their experiences at the Science and Technology Forum. They were great speakers and I am sure that their experiences all bode well for their future.

It was good to meet and greet Student Avina’s Mum Romi, Dad Avi and Brother Arnu. And Student Amelie,s Dad Phillip. Its good to see that they have the support of their families.

I have been in touch with Gavin and passed on to him that all of our thoughts are with him at this very sad time of the passing of his youngest Sister Janet and I will be sending flowers to the family on behalf of the Club.

Pat and I joined David Teape’s dine out group and had a very nice lunch at the Viaduct in Auckland, if you were not there you missed a very enjoyable time.

We have the Howick  Coastguard visit next Tuesday down at Howick beach. You can have a ride on their boat and enjoy some food and drinks after. Guaranteed to be a great evening out.

I attended the meetings of both the Social and Membership Committees. This  was, for me, both enjoyable and informative. So thank you to both of the Directors for inviting along.

Just to re-iterate what I said at the end of our last meeting. If you are not attending a meeting then please make sure that you apologise to David Owen as it does help the people on reception, the setup of the room and letting the club know regarding the meals. After all, it really is just a common courtesy to do so.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our next meeting.
So stay safe and don’t forget to Slip Slap Slop with the sun screen in this lovely Summer weather.

Rotary Dine Out
What a great day Wednesday 12 February was. Perfect weather, great company, great lunch and a most enjoyable fast cruise from Pine Harbour to the city and back. No wonder we had smiles on our faces.

Annual visit to Howick Coastguard
Next Tuesday 18th is not a scheduled club night however the club is being hosted at Howick Coastguard. We have had a longstanding relationship with this important local service particularly with the Howick Fun Walk Run annually. This year’s event is coming up fast on Sunday 15th March.
Howick Coastguard like to show their appreciation by hosting us at their premises at Howick Beach each year. If you want a ride on the rescue boat you must be there by 6pm. If you are just coming for food and drinks be there by 7pm.

Howick Fun Walk Run
This is a major project for our club and is on Sunday 15th March. We need everybody and hopefully assistance from families to help out with a range of tasks including preparation, set up and pull down, plus marshalling, recording, sausage sizzle and more.
Contact John Osborne to agree your role. This is our opportunity to show our community how we make Howick a better place and to give them an opportunity to find out about Rotary.

Membership
Who do you know that could be a Rotarian if they were invited to join? New members give our club a future. A group of locals were invited to become Rotarians in 1961 and started our “service before self.” Imagine if we each introduced 1 person!
Talk to Ian Fox about how to approach someone.

I will send you through my article about our speakers next and follow up Mike for his contribution then you should have everything for this week.
Regards
