 President's Message

Gavin

Good Evening Members, Friends of Rotary, Past Members, Wives and Partners that read the Keyway.

Over the last two weeks I had the privilege to take Lynne and her Dad to the South Island , as I had work in Christchurch and Wellington.

We flew to Christchurch, picked up a car and drove to Rolleston to surprise our Daughter and her family. After completing my work, we drove down to Timaru to stay a day and night with my Sister and her husband, We then headed back to Christchurch,  said goodbyes to Family and drove up the Kaikoura Coast and onto Picton, crossing over on the ferry to Wellington, the next day. After working there we drove to Hawera, so Dad (92) could catch up with family friends he reminisce over the home he had lived in . After a night in Hawera it was then back to Auckland. A safe trip in a hard time.

Covid-19 is back and the reality is that we have to stay resilient keeping ourselves safe at all times, We need to isolate again and  then get back to normality as soon as possible. Please all of you keep safe, and if there is anything I can do to help please don’t hesitate to call me.

Can I take this time to thank Helen Donoghue and her team for running another good Blood bank in the Howick Bowling Club this year. Thank you all for promoting Rotary in the community.
Let’s hope Bookarama is not hampered by Covid-19. I thank Geoff Thompson and his team for the work they are doing.

Can I also thank all the Members, Partners and Friends for turning up last night to catch up with Simeon Brown and Christopher Luxon, our National candidates for Pakuranga and Botany. Some great questions and some good answers. I wish them all the best in the coming elections.
Remember to diary in the 8th September to listen to our Labour Candidates.

Tuesday the 25th August is a must for all. Communication and Club Assembly night. Please bring your Ipad, Phone, Laptop etc. so we can all get on the same page with, Clubrunner, Facebook, Rotary Oceania and other means of Rotary communication.

Let’s hope Covid-19 dose not linger on  for long.

 COVID-19 Canadian Comments

Past president Bob Jollands shared these comments from a Canadian friend.

So we're into our 5th month of defeating COVID-19. These words made me laugh but there's a lot of truth mixed in to consider. Click here to see them.

 Bookarama 2020

Please make yourself available to help our club with Bookarama 2020

How can you help?
  1. We are arranging depots for the community to drop off books etc-we will be needing volunteers to collect them and deliver them to our store depot in Uxbridge Rd.
  2. Our advertising will commence next week and your help would be appreciated once we start getting calls.
  3. As in previous years we will be erecting signs and help will be needed
  4. Sorting books at the depot in Uxbridge Rd will commence soon so again your help will be appreciated
  5. We will need maximum support from all club members and other volunteers during the actual sale period. Volunteer rosters will be drawn up in the near future so please say yes whenever you can
