Greetings and salutations to my fellow RCOH members.I hope that you are all well and surviving “Lockdown” now in #2. It’s a lot noisier and busier isn’t it?
Now to bring you up to speed with what has been happening on the club’s charity front.
As you all probably already know a small committee was formed to aid with food parcels to go to the needy families in the local area. The committee consists of Malcom Pascoe (chair), Rob Mouncey, Gavin Green and Glen Donaldson.
The Board met and approved a $5000.00 donation From the RCOH Community Trust to be given to the committee to disseminate as they saw fit. The money was donated as follows:
$1000.00 to the Howick branch of the Salvation Army
$2000.00 to The All Saints Church in Howick
$2000.00 To Stand (formerly The Pakuranga Children’s Health Camp in Half Moon Bay).
And lo and behold a further very generous $5000.00 was donated from The Thomas Brydon Trust, the whole amount going to The Salvation Army.
A lot of our members have indicated that they would like to make personal donations. So any such donations from members, their families and friends should follow the following guidelines.
The subcommittee recommended that these additional donations be directed to the Salvation Army through the Make a Donation button on their web site. This would make the administration easy as the Salvation Army are set up to provide receipts (if you want them for tax purposes) and have undertaken to track the donations made by members so we know what the total support the club is providing and complete the matching when approved. If you want make a donation straight away the steps are as follows:
- Go to the Salvation Army web site www.salvationarmy.org.nz and click the Make a Donation button (top right).
- Fill in your personal details.
- In the Comments Box request that the donation go toward Food Parcels through the Howick Branch on behalf of the Rotary Club of Howick.
- Also, in the comments box request a receipt to make your donation tax effective.
- Complete the credit card payment.
In the event that you do not want to use the Salvation Army web site and your credit card, the Clubs Trust will accept donations directly by internet banking (no cheques as no contact) to bank account

All of the above organisations are very grateful for the monies that the Club and Trusts have given them, and I am personally very vey proud of what our club has done. So, a huge thank you to Malcom and his committee.
So now getting back to our new normal, I have asked Dave Wylie to set up a Zoom meeting for this month’s meeting which in on Tuesday the 26th and I am sure that we will be hearing from him in due course regarding this.
And the next month, Tuesday the 23rd is our CHANGEOVER NIGHT (I know, doesn’t time fly when you are having fun). I have been speaking to Gavin (our President Elect) and Geoff (director of our Social Committee)regarding this and I am sure that they have got everything under control.
I really miss seeing you all, Zoom meetings are okay but are not the same, so hopefully next month if not sooner we will a be able to get together and maybe press the flesh and even a hug or two here and there.
